July 31 – Deuteronomy 6:7

Deuteronomy 6:7
You shall teach them diligently to your children.

I found something so cool as I was studying this verse. There are about 70 tomes that Hebrew words are translated “teach,” but this is the only time this word is used, and it is translated “teach diligently” (KJV) and “Impress” (NIV). But the word literally means “to sharpen” or “to whet”! Interesting, huh?!

So the Amplified says, “You shall whet and sharpen them, so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children,…” Remember that this is preceded by having them in your own heart and mind? Then we’ll know how to sharpen them so they’ll enter our kids’ hearts. Maybe because your personal experience will add the ring of authority to your teaching. The difference between reading it from a book (which is also good!) and looking him in the eye and telling it from your heart.
