September 7 – I John 2:15

I John 2:15
Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.

We’re going to tackle a subject now that is so hard. And I’m tackling it with a log in my eye, so it’s even harder. When the high school kids met here for Bible study, we spent weeks on this, always trying to pin down a definition of “the world,” and never ever really succeeded. So why try to study it, with at least two strikes against us already? Because the things that Jesus and other writers have said about it are huge. Like this one — if we love the world, we don’t love the Father. Litmus test. A very painful one for us rich Christians. Wow — is this really true? Father, help me. And I even shy at praying that!

  1. Deborah.J says:

When I read verses like this, which can seem harsh, I think about what would happen if I did love the world. It would be a shallow life.
I look forward to the rest of this!
