Smile on the Horizon

A couple days ago my hyper-responsible older daughter burst inside yelling, “MOM! There’s a cow in the yard, and the baby is trying to go outside!”

I peeked out the door and saw neither hide nor hair of cow.

What I did see was the most marvelous light from the sunset… the kind of light that keeps reminding me, “You’re home.”

I cajoled my distraught daughter into standing in the light for me.

As we talked for a few minutes, she finally relaxed and gave me this smile:

I love this picture of her. It captures so much of who she is… It captures the calm I always wish to see in her.

Shortly, we spotted the cow on the horizon again, and the flip side of my daughter kicked in. We rescued babies, tricycles, and a stray sock as the light dwindled.

I don’t know where the cow spent the night, but I hope it was someplace nice! I’m feeling grateful for her… thankful for the little, brief connection that she inspired with my girl.

That is so beautiful that it looks like it should be on an advertisement or poster or something. Amazing! So happy to see your blogs again!

I also love that kind of light in the morning or after a rain when the sun shoots across the valley from under the clouds

Thanks, everyone. The light was just right, and I wouldn’t have seen it if it weren’t for the cow scare. I’d like to frame this one.
