Who Can Refuse a Kitten?
My daughter finally got her long-awaited kittens:
I mentioned almost a year ago that I’m not a cat person. But a couple months ago, our very nice neighbor walked over to our house and said, “These poor kittens will be given away at a fair tomorrow unless you take some of them tonight… and by the way, this kitten is my favorite ever…” And I couldn’t say no. Sneaky neighbors. 🙂
Actually, we like them a lot – the neighbors and the kittens.
This picture cracks me up:
The kittens stay in the garage, where the dogs hang out. Our dogs are very high energy (read: nitwits), and their main goal in life is to chase things. Sometime I’ll post pictures of their baseball games with my husband.
Of all the places in the garage where the kittens could sleep – including the safety of countertops and cubby holes – this cat chooses to sleep right between the dog crate and the wall.
She looks very worried about the dog’s frantic scraping to get at her.
This kitten gives me new perspective on life.
We’ve tried to let the kids name the two kittens. They’ve tossed around ideas like:
1. Pretty Kitty
2. Princess Kitty
3. Dolly Kitty
4. Cool Kitty (offered by my son)
and a host of nonsensical syllables, like
5. Akbaluli, and
6. Kalasawa
I’m not sure what their final decision was, but “Here, Kitty Kitty” is working well for me.
The kids take little time in claiming most things that enter our home (matchbox cars, vitamin waters, kittens). Then they remember which thing belongs to which kid, for the rest of their lives. The tiger striped kitten is my son’s…
and the lighter colored kitty is my daughter’s.
Sometime soon, I’ll post the heroic adventure of my daughter’s Princess Kitty – or maybe its name is Pretty Kitty. I know now that we can rule out Cool Kitty. Much to my son’s disappointment, I think we’ve determined that we have two females. You know what that means… Time for a trip to the vet!
On the other hand… we could leave them intact and then repay our neighbors with a visit next year…
Actually, I’ll scratch that thought. They might just be better at saying no than I am! 🙂
Have a happy Wednesday!
I’ve seen the kittens, heard the story, but I always love it when you post. You have a way of making just an ordinary story into a really fun read!
It might be an old wives tale, but I thought all orange striped cats were boys. It can be hard to tell when they’re little. I can’t wait to hear the outcome once they’ve visited the vet. Either way they’re cute as can be, and I know the children are thrilled.
