March 7 – Proverbs 24:3-4

from Proverbs 24:3-4
(click here to read the verse and yesterday’s notes)
Wisdom…built, understanding…established, knowledge…filled.

I’m sure there is some overlapping of meaning, but, since the words are all different, there must be nuances of meaning.
Wisdom – skill, learning in life, trade, war, or spiritual things.
Built – to make, build, rebuild, establish.
Understanding – insight, ability, skill, wisdom, discretion.
Established – be steadfast, be firm, be prepared, made secure, confirm, make ready.
Knowledge – understanding, learning, cunning.
Filled – ordained, satisfied, consecrate, overflow, to be set.

So, maybe — Your house will be founded on the spiritual and life skills you have. It will be made secure and confirmed by the insight, ability, and discretion you have. And all the parts will be satisfied and overflow because of your learning and cunning. Reminds me of the Proverbs 31 woman.

  1. Sorry for the unrelated photo this morning, Mom! But thanks for the very relevant post. You’ve been a picture of how this works out in real life… putting the feeding of the heart first and letting the to do list follow.

    • Annie says:

I loved the photo. It’s beautiful. I’d actually rather have beauty than relatedness, if I have to choose.

      • Mom says:

Actually, that was “mom” that said that! I hadn’t noticed that Annie changed my settings on my computer.

  2. Julie says:

Mom…You’re speaking my language! I printed this one and put it up by the kitchen sink.

    • Mom says:

Your language is Hebrew? Yes, I like to go back to the original meanings, too. It gives a broader meaning to our words, doesn’t it? By the way, HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY. ( Do you speak “Owl,” too?)

      • Julie says:

I think the “language” I was referring to (or is it “to which I was referring”?) was… my mother-tongue. And I probably do speak “owl”, I’m afraid.

  3. Annie says:

Really Annie this time… Mom, moving into my new house makes my spirit yearn for deepness, simplicity, but mostly, to carry a peaceful, quiet spirit. What I yearn for sounds so much like what you described today, reminding me (duh), of Where I can find What I’m looking for. Thanks Mom.
