March 28 – Job 22:25-26
Job 22:25-26 Amp
And make the Almighty your gold and the Lord
your precious silver treasure. Then you will have
delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your
face to God.
I’ve been sitting here thinking and thinking. What
does it mean, day-to-day, to make the Lord your
treasure? I think Julie focused on this for awhile.
Let’s ask her. Julie? —–!!

Whew! We could open up a whole new section on the blog, post every day, and never come to the end of this. Learning to make Jesus my treasure really just became a part of observing the world around me, the world inside of me, the world through history, and then asking, as honestly as I could, the questions that naturally arose out of those observations.
Starting with the Epic of Gilgamesh (ancient Sumerian literature), all the way through this morning’s headlines, I find myself with the same questions: Who is qualified to run this planet? What is a great leader? What is “The Good Life”? What is a hero? How do I gain immortality? What relationship should I have with the natural world around me? What is deity like, and how should I relate to him/her/them/it? And, more personally: Who really knows me? Who can guide my life? Who can truly woo my soul?
And then I look at the answers the world offers, and the older I get, the more I see that nobody really has a good answer. No one is wise enough, or powerful enough, or good enough.
Except Jesus.
The promise we have been given is that he will come back, and he will fix all this mess, and he will rule us, and answer all those questions, and all the ones that I couldn’t fit in this comment box, and all the ones I haven’t thought of yet.
All those labels that the Bible has attached to him become more and more real to me, and I find myself eager for the days to come, as he continues to open my understanding:
Wonderful. Counselor. The Mighty God. Everlasting Father. Prince of Peace. Bridegroom. Redeemer.
Think of that! This whole big mess is redeemable. Everything. He can do it all.
That’s our treasure.
Yes. With lots of exclamation marks. Yes, Jesus. And, come to think of it, that’s our response. “Yes, Jesus.” Yes, You are. Yes, I will. Yes, You can. And we watch with wonder and worship. And as we continually put our heart there, where we find Him, there will our treasure be also. Or is it that as we find our treasure there, we find our heart there, too? Or both? Thanks, Julie. There’s lots to keep chewing on. That was way more than I was expecting.
But it shouldn’t have been!
Beautifully said.
