April 6 – Proverbs 31:18
Proverbs 31:18 NIV
She sees that her trading is profitable, and her
lamp does not go out at night. NASB – She senses
that her gain is good…. Amp – She tastes and sees
that her gain from work [with and for God ] is good.
Remember all the times we’ve stood back and
admired a finished project — a clean room, a canner
of beans, a painted chicken coop — and said, “We’re
being scriptural!”? (to stand back and admire) Well,
this is that scripture! It probably goes deeper than
that, though. I think it’s more like, “Has my time (or
money) been spent wisely? Was the two hours I
traded for that one cup of shelled peas worth the investment? Tim says, “Work smarter, not harder.” And he’s right. But sometimes I enjoy the “harder” way. Just know that you’re deciding that. I don’t know about that lamp. Does it mean to stay up late working, or to make sure you have enough oil? I’m all for the latter! Maybe the note-on-the-fridge/pantry system! Always oil, right?!!! Love you.

I LOVE this scripture, almost as much as the “don’t muzzle the ox” one! One thing that I think kids need to be taught, is to love working. Thanks Mom. You did a really great job. (It also helps when someone ELSE notices that your work is good… and compliments profusely!)
