May 26 – John 15:4

John 15:4b
Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.

Have you thought about what fruit is, Annie? That fruit isn’t for the tree’s benefit; it’s for spreading the seed. It’s for producing more that are like the parent. Even that wonderful, delicious flesh surrounding a peach seed is just to make it so desirable that we would take it and carry it off, spreading the seed. (If they all stayed where they fell, they would grow and shade each other out — another lesson!) And so, we carry the Seed. Jesus in us, the good news, the gospel, Jesus died for us. Have we caused that seed to be desirable? What is the fruit that surrounds it — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
