August 20 – Colossians 3:15
I’ve been thinking about peace.
If it’s between people or nations, they’re not fighting. So I’ve been trying to put my finger on what’s not at war when it’s within us. I was trying to pin it down to one thing, but have decided it could be many — us against our conscience, or against God; fear against trust; greed against generosity. Lots of things. But it seems like, when we have un-peace, that it would be helpful to pin down what things are at war. Then maybe we’ll see more clearly how to choose to act. But we ARE to CHOOSE peace.
Colossians 3:15 Amp
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from the Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts — deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds — [in that peaceful state] to which [as members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful — appreciative, giving praise to God always.
I think “let” is a key word here. Allow it. So often we fight the choices that would actually bring us peace.
