New Home: The Place of Perfect Marital Bliss
My husband and I have spent hours daydreaming together about our perfect home. These have been fun times for us (the dreaming part of it, not the hard years).
I feel a little foolish admitting this, but I was a tiny bit worried that after we moved to our permanent place, we wouldn’t have anything to dream together about anymore.
Haha! There was no need for concern!
Our new place is nice, but it’s a far cry from the lodge style we had imagined. The land is beautiful – sometimes it takes my breath away. We’ll be developing this place for the rest of our lives, though. That suits me just fine.
My favorite views on the property are off the back deck, especially at sunrise or sunset.
Two of the horses down there are ours, and three belong to my in-laws…
…including Bella. Hello, lovely lady.
We don’t have a barn for the horses and goats yet. There’s a very old shed that my husband may clean up to use this winter. Lots of work for him…
My husband is half-way done clearing out this old hedge apple tree. There was a pile of junk under it. Anyone need weathered wood pallets for anything?
He and I want to turn the upper part of the detached garage into a wood shop. We have so much in common that it’s eery… except for a common hobby, which seems sort of important. We think woodworking together may be our key to achieving marital bliss.
We get competitive with these attempts at shared pursuits. There’s always the old farmhouse available when he’s in the doghouse. 😉
The old place sits close to a fish-filled creek with a floating dock. We’ve had lots of suggestions for renovating the house, including knocking out the walls to make a picnic pavilion. It’s just more work…
We have 72 acres. Parts of it are currently leased for crops and cattle. My husband wants to put his own cattle on some of it and use the rest to grow hay for the horses. His list gets longer…
This is our still unfurnished living room. My husband is hosting an office party here in a week and a half. I’m not freaking out. Not one bit.
What, you don’t believe me? 🙂
Our old furniture went down to the basement. My husband nixed the idea of moving it back upstairs for the party. Maybe a basement party?
This is where I will finally conquer my dislike of cooking. (The kitchen pictures were from the day I viewed the house with the realtor. Decorations aren’t mine.)
Here’s another reason we think this house is good for us:
We got married because we couldn’t bear to be apart. Now we’re thrilled that his stuffed prairie chicken is not on my mantle, and my decorative papers and the kids’ dollhouses aren’t on his desk. Bliss!
The kids shared a room at the last house. Now the girls have a very PINK room, and the boys have a nice room in neutral colors.
And now I’ve saved the best for last…
Aaaaah…
Thanks for touring with me! I’ll have to catch you later!
Now… since there’s nothing else to do… where did I put those bonbons?
It is beautiful, Debbie! Thanks for the tour. Have you seen the post on Pinterest about using weathered wood pallets to make outdoor tables? If I lived closer, I would take them!
I was thinking about rustic picture frames, too.
Courtney, I hadn’t seen that! I just checked your pinterest page, and the idea is perfect! I repinned it to my page. The original idea for the table is here, if anyone wants to see it: http://www.joyeverafter.com/blog/2011/7/13/outdoor-pallet-table-diy.html
Mom, I wondered about picture frames, too. There are plenty of pallets! I sure wish I knew woodworking better.
nice place .. enjoy your new place ..
I love the new farm! And your home is beautiful. You just have to make the table and show us the finished product. Thanks for the tour!
