October 7 – Mom's aside

Mom’s aside

You know, Annie, self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, and I know from experience that when a person is walking in the Spirit, that self-control comes so much easier. But also, remember when we were talking earlier about each small decision being important? That’s so true with self-control, and it builds. Each tiny right choice makes the next right choice easier. Each choice (good OR bad) makes a groove, and two of the same choices make that groove deeper. Doesn’t that put a heavier weight on a seemingly insignificant choice? You might be setting the path for everything that will come after, for that goal that you had chosen when you made your plans.

This is so very true. I have been practicing generosity by always giving the biggest half away… and sometimes both halves 🙂 Sounds so paltry, but growing up in a big family it was always on my mind to get my fair share. Those small thoughts and actions grow into bad habits. I was convicted that to shift the whole focus it would be important to start small as well, to not focus on getting the fair share but focus on sharing. Isn’t God kind to lead us in a way of obedience that can change the rudder and shift the direction of the whole ship? (Thought your dad might like that example!)
