Houses Past
My husband and I have been married a dozen years now. We’ve moved about six times (depending how you count it). Before I show pictures of our current house, I thought it would be fun to walk down memory lane! The walk turned into an all-day hike, so I’ll give the tour of our current place tomorrow or Friday. Where I Grew Up My parents have lived in the same house for more than 40 years. They’ve done a lot of work to it over the years! (Click here to read more... Read More
August 31 – Mark 4:2, 4:34
A note from Debbie: Mom has been writing daily devotions to Annie on three-by-five cards since last October. In February, the computer-ambivalent, non-facebook-user allowed me to start posting her devotions on the blog! Writing and posting can be tiring, especially during very busy times. I’m giving Mom a break this week, plus letting Annie hear a little of a different family member’s heart. The next five devotions will be from me, focusing on Mark chapter four. Mark... Read More
August 30 – Numbers 22:23
Numbers 22:23 And the donkey saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the way and His sword drawn in His hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field; and Balaam struck the donkey to turn her into the way. I wonder how many times we “strike the donkey,” because we’re too blind to see the Angel of the Lord? What we curse is actually carrying us out of harm’s way. If we could always see all that God sees, would it be really easy... Read More
August 29 – Luke 18:1, 9
Luke 18:1, 9 Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up….” However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” In between those two sentences is the story of the widow who kept bothering the unjust judge. I knew that story was about praying, but I guess I hadn’t realized that it was laid out in plain words — “always pray and not give up.” And Jesus considers that... Read More
August 28 – Psalm 12:6, I Peter 1:25
Psalm 12:6 Amp, I Peter 1:25 The words and promises of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times over. The Hebrew word for pure (also translated “tried” in II Sam 22:31 and Psalm 18:30 and “flawless” in the NIV) is a metal-smelting word. Silver ore is melted, and the impurities are separated from the liquid silver. In the Bible the number seven symbolizes perfection. So this is saying that God’s... Read More
August 27 – Proverbs 13:11
Proverbs 13:11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. I don’t know why this verse is so encouraging to me. It sort of seems like “duh.” But the little-by-little-ness of it is helpful, and not just with money. With time, with parts of a project, with character. Each tiny step forward IS important. It becomes part of a whole. Or, in wanting to lose weight (which is not your issue, you skinny new mama!), this... Read More
Sunshiny Smiles From the Zoo
I’m moving on from the Friday series of posts (at least for now, in this venue). Too dark! I felt like I was reliving it all over again. I’m unspeakably grateful for family and friends who prayed us right on through those years. Some sunshiny smiles are in order… The kids and I went to the zoo last week for the first time since we moved. It was swelteringly hot, so we spent most of our time indoors… like in the Amazon rain forest building, where it was... Read More
August 26 – James 1:4
James 1:4 Amp But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed (with no defects), lacking in nothing. I love this verse! Don’t try to sidestep or cut short what God is doing in you. Let patience do its perfect work. Endure. Learn. Ask God what He wants to teach you in what you’re going through. Be moldable clay. Trust. See? He’s trying to make you “perfectly... Read More
August 25 – II Peter 1:5-8
II Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pretty good incentive! And look! …... My Birthday
This past week we celebrated my 35th birthday. Mom and Annie brought brunch one morning. We ate gluten-free so Mom could enjoy everything, too. Annie made peach bread with a gluten-free flour. The texture was amazing! (Click here to read more or leave a comment on My Birthday) Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterPinterest Read More
